Many diets out there label certain foods or food groups as "good" or "bad". But I want to let you in on a little secret...
There is NO such thing as “good” or “bad” foods.
You may be thinking - that’s crazy! what about donuts? French fries? Those are CLEARLY bad. And the green smoothie I drink or quinoa salad I eat is OBVIOUSLY “good”. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s not black and white and unfortunately that way of thinking will lead you to things like binge eating, over restricted eating and some definite shame and guilt.
It’s time to make peace with our food and move away from the absolutes of “good” and “bad” and start weighing the benefit of our food using different scales. Instead of declaring a certain type of food “bad”, consider instead how nourishing is this for me? What is my body really requiring right now? It may need a high carbohydrate energy source to fuel me. (Are carbs on your “bad” list?) And instead of declaring something “good” just because of all that it doesn’t have (low calorie, sugar-free, etc.), consider if it’s really nourishing you? What exactly is in that low-calorie/magic diet bar? And don’t forget, ENJOYING our food plays a huge role.
I’m not challenging you to go eat donuts and fries all day, but to break out of those “good” and “bad” food boxes. There’s a better way of living and nourishing your body without all that guilt! I’m here to partner with you! Reach out today and let’s get started!
